Getting Started
Visit the Instructor Orientation website to learn about the administrative functions available to you when using your Connect for Education hosted course
To request your course, please complete the Course Setup Form. Your course will be ready within 5 to 10 business days, and you will be notified once it has been completed.
Once completed, your course will be available on the Connect For Education course website at www.connect4education.org or www.c4edu.org. Please check with the Connect For Education Support Team if you are unsure where you course is being hosted.
Please note that you will need to complete the setup form prior to each semester you will be teaching with us.
Currently, Connect For Education offers OnMusic Appreciation, OnMusic Jazz (2nd Edition), and Nutrition and Well-Being for Blackboard.
Please complete the Blackboard Course Setup Form to request a Blackboard course. You will receive a course cartridge download key and additional instructions for installing it onto Blackboard. Please make sure you use the ‘Import Course Cartridge’ function in Blackboard and enter the key provided to you. To avoid potential conflicts and issues with your course setup in Blackboard, please do not copy another instructor’s course.
Connect for Education uses the most common and widely supported web technologies for our Blackboard courses (i.e. Flash, HTML). Our courses are tested using the latest versions of Blackboard, however—there are many variables which can impact your experience with a Blackboard content cartridge.
A few things to note about Blackboard:
-
Blackboard is a closed system. This means that your school’s Blackboard system is not open to Connect for Education, and therefore, our ability to support you is limited. We will do every thing we can to help, but please consider your school’s Blackboard administration and help team your first line of support.
-
Blackboard comes in many varieties and versions. Furthermore—the implementation of Blackboard varies from school to school. In fact, many schools customize their Blackboard implementations with third-party or proprietary code. As a result, our testing environment cannot accurately reflect the breadth of real world Bb systems, and unexpected problems can occur.
-
The specific web browser and version of that browser can dramatically impact how Blackboard content is displayed; in some cases with negative results. In fact, some browser versions will alter how Blackboard responds to user customizations—at times rendering the customized pages unreadable.
Recommendations for success:
-
Check with your school’s Blackboard team to be sure you are using the recommended browser and the proper version of it.
-
Check the Connect for Education Blackboard Support FAQ for current information regarding browser compatibility, Bb version compatibility, and more.
-
Avoid customizing the Connect for Education formatted content (the lecture material containing images, Play buttons, Discover Music, Discover Video, etc.) Instead—add your own customized content around it.
-
Backup your cartridge before making any changes to the course.
-
Consider using Connect for Education’s hosted course. We consider our Blackboard cartridge a great solution for instructors who have fluency with Blackboard (and its issues) or where there is an institutional mandate to use the Bb cartridge when one is available (very rare).
OnMusic Appreciation has two versions: Index A and Index B. The difference between the two relates to what is covered in the Historical section of the course.
Index A: provides a general overview of the Historical periods
Index B: provides a more in-depth look into the Historical periods
If you’d like to review one or both versions, please contact Sales or Support to be added to our Demo courses.
For Blackboard, the Standard edition is the equivalent to Index A. The Extended edition is the equivalent to Index B.
Connect For Education currently offers OnMusic Jazz, 2nd Edition and OnMusic Rock, 2nd Edition. The 1st Edition of these courses is no longer being offered and 1st Edition Access Codes are no longer being used with our courses. Students must purchase OnMusic Jazz (2nd Edition) and OnMusic Rock(2nd Edition) Access Codes for these courses.
For courses hosted on C4E, all course changes and customizations are managed by the Connect for Education Support Team. Please contact Support or the tech who created your course regarding any changes you would like made.
It is strongly recommended that you contact Support at least 3 business days prior to the official start date of class and prior to the students submitting any work regarding any course setup adjustments.
For courses hosted in Blackboard, any necessary adjustments to your Blackboard course and/or any issues related to your Blackboard website should be directed to your college or university’s Blackboard Support staff. (Blackboard is a closed system. This means that your school’s Blackboard system is not open to Connect for Education, and therefore, our ability to support you is limited. We will do everything we can to help, but please consider your school’s Blackboard administration and help team your first line of support.)
Course class dates, unless otherwise specified, are set up based on the dates you specify on the Course Setup Request Form (course start/end date and/or Midterm/Final dates). These class dates are only suggested dates to help students pace themselves. Class dates do not limit or restrict their access to the course material. If you would like to request specific class dates or days of the week for your course, please include this information on the Course Setup Request Form or email the support team at support@connect4education.com.
